Long shelf life at room temperature

UHT milk, also known as long life milk is emerging as an attractive commercial alternative offering a hygienic product of unmatched quality.

The great advantage of UHT Milk is the ability to transport it long distances and to store at atmospheric temperature.

Shelf Safe Milk is what the industry calls UHT or Ultra High Temperature, meaning that the milk has been pasteurised at a higher temperature, but for a shorter time, to preserve taste and nutrition. UHT Milk is the most common product, but the process is also used for fruit juices.

Ultra-high temperature processing, ultra-heat treatment, or ultra-pasteurisation is the sterilisation of food by heating it for an extremely short period of time, around 1 – 2 seconds, at a temperature exceeding 135deg, which is the temperature required to kill spores in milk.

What is Long Life Milk?

Long life milk has nothing added or taken away, it is simply heated to a higher temperature than fresh milk to make is last longer. This process is known as ultra heat treating (UHT) and ensures that all of the natural nutritional goodness you would find in fresh milk is retained.
